BRA Day Event at Mayo Clinic
Join the Coalition of Blacks Against Cancer (CBAC) and Mayo Clinic for Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) Day, an informative and empowering evening designed for patients, survivors, caregivers, family members, and healthcare professionals.
On Monday, October 19, from 5–8 p.m. at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, attendees will have the opportunity to hear from expert physicians and breast reconstruction specialists, learn about today’s reconstruction options following mastectomy or lumpectomy, connect with medical experts and support professionals, explore valuable patient resources, and ask questions to help guide informed care decisions.
Light refreshments will be served, and attendees will also have the opportunity to meet community vendors. We invite you to join us for an evening of education, resources, and connection as we help ensure individuals affected by breast cancer understand the options and support available to them.
National B.R.A. Day

Presented in collaboration with The Larry Fitzgerald Foundation, this free event offers an evening of hope, healing, education, and empowerment for breast cancer survivors and the community. Attendees will hear from medical experts about breast reconstruction options following cancer treatment, experience inspiring survivor testimonials, tour the Carol Fitzgerald Breast Health Center, and access mammogram screenings aboard the BIG Pink Bus.

Still Her: Womanhood, Sensuality & Self-Love After Cancer
Session Description
This session treats sexual wellness as a core measure of holistic health rather than a private extra, and uses the Five Circles of Human Sexuality as its map. It moves through what cancer and its treatment change in the body, in the mirror, in the bed, and in the sense of self, and through what can actually be done about each one.
Particular attention goes to the shifts Black women describe most often and discuss least: a body that no longer looks or responds like the one they knew, a womanhood they were taught was located in breasts, hair, or a womb, and a script of unbreakable strength that leaves no room to say this hurts or I miss being touched. Self-love and self-care are treated as clinical business rather than decoration. Attendees leave with plain language for their next oncology appointment, a named intervention for their most pressing symptom, and the experience of having said out loud what most have carried alone.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
Explain sexual wellness as a critical component of holistic health, and name at least three ways unaddressed sexual side effects shape survivorship, including endocrine therapy adherence, mental health, and relationship stability.
Describe how surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and endocrine therapy alter body image, sensation, arousal, lubrication, and desire, and distinguish what is permanent from what is treatable.
Articulate at least two ways their sense of womanhood shifted after diagnosis, and commit to one self-love and one self-care practice that answers that shift.
Identify three evidence-informed options for sexual and genitourinary symptoms, and demonstrate one script for raising them with an oncologist and one for raising them with a partner.

Prostate Health Awareness Initiative
In recognition of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, the Coalition of Blacks Against Cancer (CBAC) invites the community to support the Norbik Foundation’s Prostate Health Awareness Initiative on Saturday, September 19, from 9 a.m.–1 p.m. at American Legion Post 65, 1624 E. Broadway Road in Phoenix.
This free community event is focused on raising awareness, encouraging proactive health care, and emphasizing the importance of early detection in the fight against prostate cancer. Attendees will have access to free PSA screenings, expert health talks, screening information, educational resources, and opportunities to connect with community support.
Early detection can save lives, and knowing your numbers is an important first step. Join us as we work together to educate, empower, and encourage men to prioritize their prostate health.

David Bradford, a PhD student in Clinical Health Psychology at the University of Colorado Denver, is studying beliefs about psilocybin ("magic mushrooms") and psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy as an emerging treatment for psychological distress in cancer patients. He'll share his proposed study, its purpose and benefits, and discuss information about his Patient Advisory Committee.

Education Session: Pelvic Floor Health for Men, Women, and Every Body
Join us this month for an informative conversation on pelvic floor health. Cancer treatment, whether it be surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy can all impact pelvic floor function, leading to issues like bladder and bowel changes, pelvic pain, and sexual dysfunction. These are common experiences among survivors, yet they often go unaddressed.
We are honored to welcome Dr. Tara Sullivan and Dr. Kylee Austin are pelvic floor physical therapists and co‑owners of Mind to Body Healing (M2B), a practice dedicated to whole‑person pelvic health. Their work includes care for prostatitis, post-prostatectomy recovery, sexual dysfunction, and bladder, bowel, and pelvic pain concerns.
Dr. Sullivan is a nationally recognized expert with advanced certifications in pelvic rehabilitation, women’s health, and sexual medicine, bringing over a decade of specialized clinical and teaching experience. Dr. Austin blends her background in fitness and postpartum wellness with clinical pelvic health training, shaped by her own lived experience as a mother.
Pelvic Floor therapy can be beneficial for everyone — not just those navigating a cancer journey.
